ProvenKitchenTools started as a spreadsheet. Bryce, frustrated by the state of kitchen gear reviews online — affiliate-stuffed listicles copying each other, no one actually testing anything — started tracking everything he bought and cooked with. What worked. What didn't. What was worth the money. What was quietly terrible despite five-star reviews.
After a few years of meticulous notes and a growing circle of friends asking "what should I actually buy?", the spreadsheet became a website. The principle never changed: we buy the gear, we cook with it, we form opinions based on actual use, and then we write it up plainly.
We're a small team — a handful of people who genuinely care about cooking — and we cover coffee and espresso, knives, cookware, and small appliances. We're not trying to cover everything. We'd rather do fewer categories exceptionally than spray hundreds of half-researched recommendations across the entire kitchen aisle.
How We Test
Our research methodology is straightforward, because the work itself is what matters. Here's exactly how a ProvenKitchenTools review comes together:
We buy the products we review at retail price using our own money, or we return any manufacturer samples within 30 days. No pay-to-play. No "provided by the brand" gear that gets suspiciously glowing reviews.
We don't unbox things and form opinions. Every product spends a minimum of four weeks in active daily use. For cookware, that means real meals, high heat, and the dishwasher. For knives, that means hundreds of cuts across diverse ingredients.
We test competing products side by side wherever possible. Direct comparisons are more useful than isolated reviews. When we say something is the best in its category, we've actually handled the alternatives and can explain why.
We write for someone making a real purchasing decision — not for SEO robots. That means clearly stating what we liked, what we didn't, who something is right for, and who should look elsewhere. No hedging, no fluff.

Silvia manages our affiliate relationships and business operations. She maintains a strict firewall between business and editorial — the team that tests never knows which affiliate rates apply before publishing.
Our rotating team of home cooks, culinary students, and kitchen obsessives contribute hands-on testing across categories. They're the ones who cook the test meals, run the comparisons, and report back with the honest verdicts.
